Nikos Antypas (1953-2022), a legendary figure in mondern Greek music, was a renowned composer, orchestrator, and drummer. As a member of the influential band Socrates (Drank the Conium), he left an indelible mark on the Greek music scene.
Antypas's contributions extended beyond his drumming prowess. In 1985, he orchestrated the album “Zesta Pota” by the Katsimichas brothers, which became a milestone in Greek art music. In 1991, he worked on the album “Meno Ektos” by Eleftheria Arvanitaki, one of the most popular albums of that period. During the '90s, he released a series of successful albums with Haris Alexiou (“Di Euhon,” 1992) and Alkistis Protopsalti (“San ifaistio pou xypna,” 1997), featuring lyrics by Lina Nikolakopoulou. Their collaboration spanned several years.
In 1998, Antypas released his solo career with the album "Theatis" (Spectator). In 2001, he covered Sting’s song “Mad About You” for George Dalaras’s album “I Asfaltos Pou Trechei.” Towards the end of 2002, he released the album “Opwsdipote Parathyro” (Definitely a Window), a collaborative effort with guitarist Yiannis Spathas, a long-time musical partner.
